Dimitri Kitaenko To Conduct Qatar Philharmonic's Brahms Cycle
On November 29 Dimitri Kitaenko will conduct the Qatar Philharmonic in Doha, with Beethoven's Fifth Piano Concerto and Tchaikovsky's Manfred Symphony. German pianist Gerhard Oppitz will be the soloist.
After Han-na Chang's resignation as Music director, Dimitrij Kitajenko agreed to take over some more concerts during the current season. So he will rescue the Orchestra's Brahms Cycle, conducting the First Piano Concerto with Rudolf Buchbinder as well as the First Symphony (January 10). One week later, January 17, the Symphonies Nos. 2 & 3 will follow and finally, April 25, the Violin Concerto (Christian Tetzlaff) and the Fourth Symphony.
Of course the long term planned concerts are kept in the agenda: on February 6, 2015, with Linda Watson and the MDR Radio Choir in Prokofiev's Cantata 'Alexander Nevsky', 4 Scenes from the ballet 'Swan Lake' by Piotr Tchaikovsky and the 'Polovtsian Dances' from Borodin's opera Prince Igor; on March 4 with Shostakovich's 6th Symphony, the Violin Concerto No. 1 by Max Bruch as well as the Rosenkavalier-Suite by Richard Strauss.
