Dimitrij Kitajenko (Dmitry, Dmitri, Dimitri, Kitayenko, Kitaenko)

Tchaikovsky series continues on 11 June: Symphony No. 1 and excerpts from The Snow Maiden released by OehmsClassics

The next CD in the Tchaikovsky series by Dmitri Kitaenko and the Cologne Gürzenich Orchestra, released by OehmsClassics on 11 June, will be the First Symphony in G minor op. 13 “Winter Daydreams” and excerpts from the music to the play “The Snow Maiden”. Tchaikovsky himself affectionately described his First Symphony, composed in 1866, as “a sin of his sweet youth”. It was first performed in its entirety on 3 February 1868 under the direction of Nikolai Rubenstein. Praised by many critics for its richness in melody, this symphony unjustly stands in the shadow of the three 'greats', namely the Fourth, Fifth and most of all the Sixth Symphony, the Pathétique. This fourth CD in the Cologne Tchaikovsky cycle under the direction of Dmitri Kitaenko will be completed with a selection of pieces from the music to the play “The Snow Maiden”.
